Between 1860 and 1868 the company became John P. Lovell & Sons, exhibited revolvers at Philadelphia in 1876 and at Paris in 1878. It appear that the firm was taken over by Iver Johnson about 1868 but Lovell continued at the same stand at 27 Dock Square.

On March 12, 1887 J.P Lovell Arms Co, shotgun manufacturers, 147 Waschington Street, Philadelphia was incorporated and continued until 1891 when purchased by Iver Johnson's Arms anc Cycle Works. There was also a shop at Portland, Maine in the 1890s.

Lovell was a close friend of Iver Johnson. Both were Norwegian. Many of the shotguns sold under Lovell Name were in fact made by Iver Johnson. Lovell was President of Iver Johnson's Arms & Cylce Works as of 1895.
